I figure the "Etcetera" forum to be exactly what the name entails; everything besides what the other two forums cover. Medical hobnobbery, job/volunteer shtuff, applying/admissions details and w/e.

UWSOM Matriculation Data vrs. realistic goals

So, looking at my GPA a realistic goal for me is about a 3.65 (maximum) GPA by the time I graduate with my BS. The avg matric. gpa at WSOM is 3.7 and the MCAT is 31. They are also heavily biased towards instate applicants; in fact, the OOS applicant acceptance is .4%.

Looking over these MCAT tests, I really think if we work hard, a 40 is attainable. With a 3.5 (more likely than a 3.65 for me) and a 40MCAT (even say 37+) we are basically shoe-ins to the UWSOM.

fiddle with the stats ...

MCAT Study habitats vrs. score

Just wanted to paste over some stuff I read on the SDN forum.

Quote:1) 40 O - 14 PS, 12 V, 14 BS

2) Read Kaplan and Examkrackers books. Took tons of practice tests, especially for verbal which was my weakest section. I used Examkracker's verbal strategy - Kaplan's is bs. For sciences, I kind of used my intuition and did not really use a strategy.

3) Kaplan prep course, Kaplan books, Examkracker books. I highly recommend the Examkracker books - they were short and to the point. ...

ok so via my ways of action i now have a fckgnngngng ton of these practice tests. some of the others look more official but are secure documents and when i copy them over the formating gets all messed up; the below test (and the other like 50 of these) can be copied over with formating, however. what do you think the best way to go about studying these is? here's my idea; i'll take off the answer key to each test and we each take it once a week and post our answers in a reply on the thread. once ...

this is a "brain workout" designed to increase focus and thus learning ability. studies show how much we are focused can be directly correlated to how much we retain. i first heard about this sort of thing from a book, "the brain that changes itself". now the aforemention book refers to a progam/school founded by the leading mind in cognitive science/neuroplasticity. -i just realized we talked about this once before. anyways, his program is like upwards of 400 bucks so i went ...
